An electric pallet truck, also known as a powered pallet jack or walkie, is a battery-powered material handling device designed for efficiently moving palletized loads over relatively short, level distances. It replaces strenuous manual pushing and pumping with electric power.
The operator stands on a platform at the rear, controlling movement via a tiller arm. This arm houses controls for forward/reverse travel, steering, and lifting/lowering the forks. To move a load, the operator slides the forks into the pallet cavity, uses the electric pump to raise the forks slightly (just enough to clear the floor), then drives the truck to the desired location. Lowering the forks gently deposits the pallet.
Key advantages include significantly reduced operator effort and fatigue compared to manual jacks, increased productivity, and easier handling of heavier loads (typically ranging from 1,500 to 5,500 kg or more). They are essential tools in warehouses, distribution centers, retail stockrooms, and manufacturing facilities for tasks like loading/unloading trucks and transporting goods within a facility.
